Amy Ashley
Amy grew up outside of the small town of Grants Pass, Oregon on sixty-six acres of woods, fields, and deserts. Despite being passionate about every country thing under the sun, she left the woods for the massive city of Portland, OR looking for adventure. Between the ages of eighteen and twenty-four she lived in five apartments and four cities, all the while knitting, looking for animals to love, and finding places to go apple picking. Finally she decided to appaull her Jersey-born father and move back east. Now she lives in NYC fostering cats with her partner, with all her free time spent on her life-long hobby of dancing, and trying to keep up with her internationally far-flung family and friends. And knitting.
Her alter-ego Amy Ashley acquired a passion for movement from a young age through ballet, before stepping into modern, jazz, and contemporary forms under the mentorship of master teacher Tracey Durbin. An Alonzo King LINES Ballet Training Program graduate, her performance career has been a blend of collaborative projects and freelance work, spanning musical theater, film, and concert dance. In New York City she collaborates with Allyson Ross/Southern Belle Stories and Ariel Rivka Dance, and teaches throughout the tri-state area at schools, studios, outreach programs, private lessons, and workshops, including Mark Morris Dance Center, Dancewave, Moving Youth Dance Co., Spoke the Hub, and Ariel Rivka Dance Education Program.
