Danita Shaheen
Danita Shaheen was raised in the booming metropolis of Schenectady, NY. She was a rambunctious child with dreams of becoming a ninja (or world domination). But ultimately settled on a more sensible goal, attaining a career as a professional dancer. So she worked her booty off and fled upstate to peruse her passion. Since moving to NYC she’s pissed a few people off, yelled at many drivers and litterers, started a nonprofit arts organization, and curated this band of creative misfits. She also enjoys long walks on the beach, climbing on things that she shouldn’t, and raspberries.
Oh yeah, she is also a manga cum laude graduate from Marymount Manhattan College’s BFA program with a double concentration in ballet and modern. She has performed nationally and internationally with numerous contemporary, modern, and jazz/ hip hop companies. She has had the honor of working with Ariel Rivka Dance, Dance Cat-alyst, Kilowatt Dance Theater, Salma Allam and Dancers, Jeff Davis, The Cantigas Woman's Choir, Grace Rising Dance, Tamara Saari Dance, Jacobs Campbell Dance, DoubleTake Dance, Gehring Dancetheatre, Banana Peel Dance, dancesbyremi, Ryan McNally, Kaleidoscope Dance Theater, MAD About Dance, H.T. Chen and Dancers, Nikki Baksh and the Dolls of Eden, AERA, Beth Soll & Company, Andrea Gise and Dancers, Laura Ward/ Octavia Cup Dance Theatre, and Nina Buisson Contemporary Move. She’s also appeared in/choreographed for numerous film projects and music videos, and has collaborated with artists from an array of disciplines and backgrounds. In addition to performing, Shaheen is also a professional teaching artist, certified Pilates instructor, and continues to be an invited guest choreographer at many prestigious institutions.
